Building Inclusive
Community Conference
The Building Inclusive Community Conference is an annual educational conference focused on the Lyons Township Community and organized by community members and leaders.
PURPOSE / MISSION: to encourage a welcoming and inclusive culture in our community by developing understanding and empathy through learning about issues in our community.
The planning committee, referenced below, has collaborated on identifying topics for workshop sessions that highlight issues being faced by communities with a focus on diverse voices and perspectives. Community members and organizations present the workshops on a broad spectrum of topics to support the goals noted above. Interested speakers can complete the following interest form.
THE CONFERENCE CONTINUES TO GROW!
Last year, over 100 participants attended presentations, sharing stories, and engaging in meaningful discussions on a variety of topics from presenters such as Youth Outlook, West40, and the Center for Independent Living.
Past topics include:

- Practicing Self-Care and Handling Stress
- Supporting Transgender Youth and Adults
- Unvarnished: Housing Discrimination in the Western Suburbs
- Understanding Judaism and Acts of Antisemitism
- It’s All About Respect: Welcoming People with Disabilities
- The Growing Latino Population in the Western Suburbs

8:30 a.m. – Doors Open/Check In
9:00 a.m. – Welcome and Keynote Speaker(s)
10:15 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. – Two Separate Rounds of Workshops (TBD)
12:30 p.m. – Lunch
