It’s been several years since the community of Justice had a Girl Scouts Troop. In an effort to “bring a fun and save environment to learn life skills and become involved in the community,” the Justice Park District and its staff decided to start a troop, for girls in Kindergarten through Sixth Grade, to “bring life in our community,” says Sarah Lindberg, park district staff. 10 years ago, Sarah Lindberg was a girl scout in Justice and recalls being a girl scout,  adding “it taught me so many life skills, essentials, tips, tricks and made me involved more.”

When the Justice Park District submitted a request for funding to start the troop, cover membership fees, uniforms, patches, and implementation costs the Commission jumped at the opportunity to fund a youth program that teaches leadership skills, mental wellness, civic engagement, and is an opportunity for socialization.

On October 7, 28 girls and 9 adult members from Bridgeview and Justice, had their first meeting and learned about their membership, met their troops, received their uniforms, and earned their first Juliette Patch. “The families and girls involved are so grateful and excited for what else is to come from the new Girl Scout Troop #56922,” says Lindberg.  Shortly thereafter, the troops embarked on their first adventure – a visit to a local farm and petting zoo in Palos Park where they earned their first activity patch, a Pumpkin Patch!

The Troop also completed their Fall Product Sales and sold almost $5000 in sales. Top Sellers included:

  1. Olivia Guzman
  2. Liliana Nunez
  3. Raven Cuevas
Congratulations to the Troop on their sales, many thanks to the Justice Park District for advocating for the youth in our communities and the adult volunteers for contributing their time.
